Leave Your Cameras Behind

 

"When helping the needy, leave your cameras behind," we tell people. I think organisations ought to do likewise.

(Of course, the usual pushback is that 'they need photos for funders and accountability.' Well, there are funders who are willing and able to fund without any of these. Anyhow, even if photos are required, let's seek to empower with informed consent. But let's deliberate hard, before resolving to do anything out of convenience and self-promotion).

Let's empower the marginalized with our action, and not disempower them with our need for justification or validation.
