Goodbye Lady
Would you leave your dog out in the rain,
Shivering, shuddering, maybe in pain.
Drenched in the icy cold droplets from heaven,
Clueless and confused, trembling every second.
'Wasn't I good enough to bring joy and warmth,
to watch over you and keep you warned.
Maybe I couldn't see the best,
But I was always there beside you at every rest.'
Lady girl you brought joy and warmth,
Always alert to keep us warned,
Maybe we were the ones who couldn't see the best,
that you were deep in pain and could not find rest.
Maybe we could have seen this coming,
if we weren't so blinded to our own misgivings.
Tonight you're outside, in the rain,
In the arms God, in rest and no pain.
Our dog, Lady, died this morning at 6:10am. She was visually-impaired and appeared to be having some issues with a few vomiting episodes over the last couple of days. She was the dog who stayed by my mom's side all the time. Recently, mom had lost her balance, fell on the floor and couldn't get up for about an hour. Lady stayed with her the whole time. When I returned home, Lady ran out to alert me and ran back into the room to sit with her.
We buried Lady in the garden. It stormed about an hour ago. It's not easy to lose a loved one, especially when the goodbyes were never exchanged.
