Broken Reveries

Little child don't cry,I will hold your hand
I'll take you far away from this place
Where your memories will fade away
And there will be no pain

Little child find yourself, in this reality
The world is so unfair and it hurts
When you're stripped of your
Security and love
And you're left with broken dreams

I believe that the sun still shines
On a dark and stormy day
And I believe that the world still turns
When there are no more words to say a prayer
In your broken reveries, I will be there

Little child, don't believe
In lies that only hurt
For you were made with gentle hands
A value that the world can't comprehend
Like diamonds in your Maker's hands

I believe that the sun still shines
On a dark and stormy day
And I believe that the world still turns
When there are no more words to say a prayer
In your broken reveries, I will be there

Child hold my hands
I love you
I understand stand
What you're going through
Don't let this world
Look down on you
I'll hold your hand
I'll bring you through

I believe that the sun still shines
On a dark and stormy day
And I believe that the world still turns
When there are no more words to say a prayer
In your broken reveries, I will be there

Broken Reveries.
I wrote this song over a stretch of ten years. In 1997 or '98, I decided to write a song about children who were faced with brokenness. The picture in my mind was of a little girl lost and stranded in the midst of a heavy traffic. I pulled over. Got down to her height. Wiped her crying eyes and embraced her.

Children suffer in silence today. They begin to decide what life is about based on their early experiences. Some grow up within war zones, their cries drowned by a raging warfare. Some are born into slavery--slavery to labour--assuming survival traits so that life can go on for them and their families. Some are born into famine, and they hardly grow. And while us in Malaysia guzzle down a second Rhumba Frappucino, a child on the streets of Pnom Penh sniffs glue to forget his hunger.

This song promises children that somebody loves them and is doing something about it. Jesus, is the only one who can deliver them from their broken reveries. No one else can or bothers to do so.

This song also speaks to adults. The child in us. Adult-problems are unsolved teenage-problems, which inadvertently were unsolved children-problems. Some of us are stuck in our adult shells with a child's heart in need of mending. Only Jesus mends your broken reveries.
