Sweet Yesterday

Several weeks ago, I wrote a song titled "Sweet Yesterday", which was inspired by a friend's misadventures with the girl of his life. What can you do after trying so hard to make things work and realise you're walking alone on a one way street? Bummer. Here's how I expressed it:


Sweet Yesterday

I've tried so hard
To get through to you
But I'm left here standing
Without a clue
What's going on inside
Do I stand a chance
I just hope that you won't hide

Maybe we should
Just forget about all
The empty words that
Have made us this wall
I'm feeling lonely
So empty within
It's just hard for me to
Make that call

Should I run
If I know I can't even walk
To get back to where we were
Yesterday
When we were friends
And were starting out okay
Everything was new in
Sweet Yesterday

Would time really tell
Or is this just a phrase
To help me get by
The fears I can't face
I don't have the answers
I'm all out of questions
Help me see what I'm
Missing out

Would you come home
Back into my heart
I'll be a new man
I would try from the start
I'll give you flowers
For every word you say
I'm not perfect
But I could say a prayer

Should I run
If I know I can't even walk
To get back to where we were

Like I did the last

Has somebody else
Taken over my place as your friend

Should we actually try to 'get back to where we were' or politely move on with life? I guess its a lot harder to move on and wrap up all the years of friendship, nostalgia and memories to make way for newer horizons.
